Community Development Consultant
I am an experienced community developer and communicator, with a focus on helping communities grow by connecting people and resources - bringing people and groups together to meet their mutual goals. I've helped bring over $2,000,000 worth of investment into the community of Arviat in the last few years by doing exactly that – bringing together people, government, industry, and NGOs to help create training and employment programs, recreation facilities, wellness projects, and new community infrastructure.
I often say my job is not to actually do anything – but rather to bring people, tools, and resources together to create the conditions needed in order for people to feel empowered to make the changes that they want in their community. My role is mostly (though not always) off-stage.
I'm a writer. Communicator. Story teller. Story consumer. Environmentalist. Outdoor enthusiast. Poor cyclist and worse runner. Historian. Music lover. Music player when I'm feeling courageous. People admirer. Lifelong learner. Canada-phile. East Coast. North Coast. West Coast and all spaces in between. Generally caffeinated.
Currently interested in volunteer opportunities with national organizations with a focus on the environment, energy, and/or health & recreation, and open to contractual opportunities in the community development field.
Program & Project Development
If you are looking to build something for your community - be it a new facility, a new program, or new plan, I can help.
Community Development & Capacity Building
Communities are only as strong as their people. I understand the importance of building your team, and then building their skills and confidence so they can be lifelong assets to their community and their employers.
Grant & Proposal Writing
Accessing funding for your projects can be challenging and time-consuming. I have years of experience in developing grant applications and writing proposals, and I can help you navigate the process.
Working cross-culturally can be challenging, as can making connections in remote communities. I have extensive experience working in Nunavut, and can help clients navigate the landscape - literally and figuratively!
Research & Creative
I hold a Master's Degree in History from Memorial University of Newfoundland, with extensive experience in historical research using archival, primary, and secondary sources.
I have been a professional writer for nearly 15 years, with over 40 published pieces, and two e-book collections available on Amazon and Indigo.
